The transmission consent agreement is the main reason for all this dispute. There have been recurring outages of Tegna channels on DirecTV for months now. Turns out that both parties have been facing trouble coming to a common point of agreement. Such disputes usually revolve around the amount of money that providers have to pay to the broadcasters. However, since the increase in alternatives to televisions, the decrease in Pay-TV demands is inevitable, forcing the increased price on the wallets of existing viewers.

Not just DirecTV but many other companies like AT&T, U-Verse, and Mediacom are victims of these demands from Tegna. In December 2020, the same thing happened, leading to a blackout of Tegna-owned channels in over 41.7 million TV households.
