India’s ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been delivering phenomenal performances for India in the purest format of the game. In the just-concluded four-match Test series against England, Ashwin was adjudged as the ‘Man of the Series’ for taking a stunning 32 wickets in four Test matches. Before this, the spin all-rounder had also delivered decent performances both with the bat and ball in the Test series against Australia.

Ashwin’s brilliant form in the Test series has ignited the hopes of the cricket fans of seeing him playing the limited-overs format again. He has represented India in a whopping 111 One Day Internationals and 46 T20 Internationals scalping 150 and 52 wickets respectively at an economy of 4.91 and 6.97. However, the spinner has fallen out of favour for the selectors in the limited-overs and has been away from Blue Jersey since 2017.

Ahead of the five-match T20I series against England, starting from March 12 at Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, Team India skipper Virat Kohli was asked regarding the potential comeback of Ravi Ashwin in the limited-overs format. Addressing the question, Kohli asserted that it isn’t possible for Ashwin to play the shorter format as India already has Washington Sundar, who has done a commendable job with the ball, and it is difficult to have similar kinds of players in the Playing XI.

“Washington Sundar has been doing really well for us, and it is difficult to have two players similar. Unless Washi has a horrible season (not possible)…. you need to have some logic in the question as well. Easy to ask,” Virat Kohli said in the pre-match presser.

Glad to have him back: Virat Kohli on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s return

India’s veteran seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is all set to make a comeback in the Indian side after being sidelined due to his injury for more than a year. The senior pacer had suffered a thigh muscle injury during last year’s IPL which ruled him out of the league as well as the tour of Australia. When asked about the same Virat exclaimed that the team is glad to have the pacer back and they are looking forward to building a strong squad from here on.

“Glad to have him back, he is keen to contribute to many more Indian wins. Hope he can build strongly from here,” Virat Kohli signed off
