With a lot of news and updates coming forth within the music industry, one major update that recently surfaced was the announcement of a new album from Rage Against the Machine’s guitarist, Tom Morello.

Thomas Morello, also known as the Nightwatchman (in regards to his solo project under the same name), first started out his musical journey as the 13 y/o lead singer of a cover band named Nebula

The news of Tom Morello’s new album announcement comes as a happy surprise for all the rock and metal fans across the globe. The album which has been titled ‘The Atlas Underground Fire’ hosts 12 new tracks along with a “Highway to Hell” cover.

It’s obvious that you may be wondering questions like, What is the album about? Or Who all will be featuring in the album? Well, to answer all your questions, read along with the article as we cover everything that you need to know about Tom Morello’s new album.

Overview of Tom Morello’s ‘The Atlas Underground Fire’ Album

The ‘Rage Against the Machine’ guitarist who has been a part of other popular rock bands including Audioslave and Prophets of Rage, announced his new studio solo album that is set to release via Mom + Pop Music. While the album will drop on October 15th, fans get the option to pre-order the record from here.

The album record, as testified by Morello, was his way of musically dealing with all the negativity of the challenging pandemic days. To quote his own words, Tom Morello stated,

This record was a liferaft in a difficult time that allowed me to find new ways of creating new global artistic connections that helped transform a time of fear and anxiety into one of musical expression and rocking jams

While the pandemic days certainly did not make things any easier for the album’s recording, Tom Morello and fellow collaborators made it happen with files being shared across themselves from around the world. About the technical difficulties faced while recording at his Los Angeles home studio, Morello added,

During lockdown, I had no access to an engineer so I had to record all of the guitar parts on the voice memo of my phone. This seemed like an outrageous idea but it led to a freedom in creativity in that I could not overthink any of the guitar parts and just had to trust my instincts.

The New Album Features ‘Highway To Hell’

Even though the album is set to be released in October, a track featuring Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder was made available as the first single from The Atlas Underground Fire album. The single released is a cover of AC/DC’s ever-popular ‘Highway To Hell’ song.

About the track, Morello said, “Our version of Highway To Hell pays homage to AC/DC but with Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder, brings this legendary song into the future. One of the greatest rock n roll songs of all time sung by two of the greatest rock n roll singers of all time. And then I drop a shredding guitar solo. Thank you and good night.”

While we’re still on the ‘Highway To Hell’ (pun intended), I keep remembering that it was featured in the soundtracks of Iron Man 2’s ending scene where Stark [Tony] and Rhodes [James] are being awarded. And since the article centers around Morello, here’s a little fact that you might not know,
