Both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden have been a constant source of entertainment to the series’ fans across the globe. The show that ran from 2002 to 2017 has been etched into the hearts of its fans as one of the first great anime most of us have watched.

Whereas Naruto serves as a must-watch classic anime of all time, Boruto has been listed as one of the most-streamed anime in 2018 across multiple countries as per reports by Crunchyroll. Without further ado, let’s check out the reasons why Boruto is a better anime than Naruto

1. Redemption of Sasuke Uchiha

Sasuke’s character throughout the Naruto series was somewhat of an independent and arrogant one. The majority of Sasuke’s screen time towards the Shippuden end showcased the terrible acts he committed against his own friends.

However, as the series wrapped up, Sasuke was granted forgiveness for all of his wrongdoings which left most of the fandom dissatisfied without much context for the same.

The clarity that was needed in the OG series came with its sequel, Boruto, in which Sasuke acts as a savior of his home village, Konoha, that he once left. Boruto focuses on his redemption arc and the same could be seen in his deeds towards helping others including training Boruto and even leading a search party to save Naruto.

2. Much Less Filler Content

It’s a well-known fact that a chunk of the Naruto series is filled with filler episodes so much so that the series is rather infamous for it. While that is the case with the preceding series, the same is definitely not true for the spin-off series of Boruto.

Boruto takes a different approach by majorly focusing and adapting the original storyline according to the manga series without many roundabouts to the canon story.

While this is a great point for manga fans who will get a proper and better portrayal of their favorite characters in the flesh, those looking for additional anime-original content might not be content with the Boruto animated series.

3. Better Female Protagonist

With all the memes on Sakura that have surfaced and circled around the internet for so long and so far, Boruto takes charge in the department of providing better female protagonists that fans can actually admire.

While the sequel majorly deals with the exploits of Boruto, the plot also features stories of female protagonists such as the likes of Mitsuki and Sarada Uchiha. With the character of Sarada, specifically, fans can look up to an amazing and strong leader who is just as kind and compassionate whenever time and situation calls for her to be so.

4. Story of the Otsutsuki Clan

While we get to see some of the Otsutsuki clan members towards the end of Naruto: Shippuden in the events of the Fourth Great Ninja War, we can’t argue with the fact that their induction into the story felt kind of rushed without a proper introduction involved.

However, in the events of the sequel Boruto series, fans’ curiosity about the legend of the Otsutsuki clan has been met. In Boruto, fans can dive into a much deeper knowledge and story behind the ancient and almost-mythical Otsutsuki clan including all the secrets and information regarding its other clan members.

5. More Emphasis on Side Characters

Boruto takes up and delivers on the very factor where its predecessor lacked – the screen time offered to the story’s side characters. While most of Naruto’s plot was focused on Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha, the side cast was easily forgotten.

But that’s not the case with Boruto. The lack of attention that was created in the parent series has not been carried and continued in its spin-off series. With a proper screen time allotted to side characters, Boruto makes up for a rather interesting anime by expanding on its original story arc.

Now that we’ve discussed the reasons why Boruto tops off Naruto as a series, it’s time to look at the top 5 reasons why Naruto is a better anime series than Boruto.

1. Awesome Storyline

While the framework of the original series’ story arc was laid with Naruto’s dream to become Hokage, the events in Boruto seem to be much on a playful side and lack the same level of seriousness as showcased in the Naruto series.

The events in Naruto and Naruto Shippuden follow a story that is much more relatable to real life. There are times when we come to know of the antagonist’s viewpoint and we seem to understand them even more than the protagonists. Such is the way of storytelling that makes up for Naruto’s amazing storyline.

While the story of the parent series is better than Boruto’s, it is far from perfect. The time gap such as between Naruto and Naruto Shippuden along with the plot holes like in between the Fourth Great Shinobi War of the Shippuden series is not something fans appreciated.

Along with that, a ton of filler episodes in the Naruto saga was one of the biggest criticisms faced by the Naruto: Shippuden series that made the show feel somewhat of a drag. While this may not be the case with everyone as it’s just the personal opinion of the writer.

2. More Suspenseful and Dark Theme

One of the best advantages of Naruto as a series is that you could never anticipate what’ll happen to any character due to its suspenseful and dark theme. Whereas Boruto lacks this surprise element which is one of the many reasons making the spin-off rather dull and plain as compared to the Naruto series.

While Boruto serves as a beautifully animated series filled with heartwarming and joyful moments throughout the seasons, fans who’ve seen Naruto can miss the dark theme that the original series portrayed.

Naruto had its fair share of dark plots including the pain and suffering of the characters involved in the storyline. While this point may not be preferred by all, the story only depicts the real tragedy that is the world.

However, the series is not all dark and depressing as there are moments where you can almost feel the energy and motivation displayed by the main characters.

3. More Intense Action Sequences

If you’re a die-hard Naruto series fan, you’ll straight up dislike Boruto as the spin-off doesn’t even offer the same level of intense fight scenes let alone the sheer number of the action sequences.

Apart from the epic fight between Naruto, Sasuke, and Momoshiki Otsutsuki, there isn’t really much action that can make the Boruto series stand at the same level as Naruto’s.

Whereas Boruto showcases a few cameos from Naruto and Sasuke during Shin’s assault and other basic fight battles including the one with some pretty irrelevant ninjas, the first hundred episodes of Naruto featured great fights of Naruto with the likes of amazingly skilled and reputed shinobis such as Gaara, Neji, and Kabuto among others in the Chunin Exams.

Although the show’s writers took a different approach with Boruto, leaving out one of the most important things that made Naruto famous and loved by its fans all over the world was a pretty unintelligent and risky move that has led Boruto to be manhandled by Naruto as an action-oriented series.

4. More “Real” Villains

Although Boruto features some of the strongest villains such as Isshiki and Momoshiki Otsutsuki, there aren’t as many original and unique antagonists in Boruto as in the case of its parent animated series, Naruto.

While we get the introduction to some of the core and mysterious villains of the Naruto series in the likes of Orochimaru, Kabuto, and the Akatsuki at the beginning of the series, there weren’t many hints towards any major villain of the Boruto series even in its first 100 episodes.

Furthermore, the villains portrayed in Naruto were more real than Boruto’s in the sense that fans could connect to the antagonist’s backstory and the character’s personality. Antagonists such as the fan-favorite Itachi Uchiha, Pain (Nagato), and Obito Uchiha made Naruto’s storyline more compelling and interesting, to say the least.

5. Better Protagonist Character Development

The arc of Naruto has been a constant ride of countless ups and downs. Naruto had been on his own since he was a toddler. Ostracized by his own village, he was forced to incorporate the show’s theme that “hard work beats talent.”

Although he had help from Kakashi and Jiraiya to become a competent ninja, this doesn’t change the fact that Naruto had to work much harder than his peers to achieve that level of skillful status and even accomplish his goal of becoming a Hokage.

The level of relentless training that Naruto underwent is not something that can be compared to Boruto. Whereas Boruto looks for ways to bypass and learn and master techniques without much of an effort, Naruto’s work ethic makes his character grow stronger and stronger with every fight he takes.

Between us, if we’re being honest and frank, the selection of Drake’s song, “Started from the bottom, now we’re here” would have been an apt music addition in Naruto’s Hokage ceremony.

Wrapping Up

This brings us to the end of our article on which is a better series among Naruto and Boruto. While Boruto comes with better animation, the OG storyline of the parent series is and always will be superior to Boruto’s.

Although we’ve addressed both sides in this Naruto vs Boruto series battle, choosing a better series is something that is dependent on the individual. While we, personally, like Naruto more, we’ll leave it up to you to decide for yourself which series you like the most.
