#5 The Rebound Girl (Season 7 Episode 11)
Although this makes it at the last spot in the How I Met Your Mother Thanksgiving episodes ranking, The Rebound Girl is a fantastic special, nonetheless. In the episode, we see Ted and Barney thinking about adopting a child as ‘bros’.
While they don’t end up acting on that impulsive decision, Barney surprises everybody when he shows up with a baby the very next day. In a twist of events, it turns out that the baby is actually James’ (Barney’s brother) and that Barney had offered to babysit her.
Meanwhile, Marshall and Lily plan to sell their NYC apartment and settle down in the suburbs of Long Island. Just as Robin learns of their decision to move, she tries to talk them out of it. #4 Slapsgiving 2: Revenge of The Slap (Season 5 Episode 9)
In this episode, Ted and Robin kind of saved Thanksgiving by picking Marshall’s lost turkey at the Port Authority. As a form of showing his gratitude, Marshall then bequeaths his fourth slap to them. wherein the duo playfully argues about who gets to slap Barney.
Meanwhile, Lily has to put up with her estranged father Mickey who surprisingly shows up for the dinner. In a turn of events, it is revealed that it was Marshall who invited Mickey which angers Lily. While the father-daughter duo ended up reconciling and everyone heads over to the dinner, it is not before we see one of the greatest slaps that Marshall delivers to Barney straight in the face.
The episode also introduced Mickey’s weird board games along with Lily’s ‘You’re Dead to Me’ stare keeping the entertaining factor of the episode intact and engaging.
#3 Blitzgiving (Season 6 Episode 10)
This episode marks the first time that Ted hosts Thanksgiving dinner for the gang. While trying to make it as memorable as he can, Ted comes up with the turturkeykey, a special turkey preparation stuffed within another turkey.
While in the bar when Ted is about to call it an early night, the group tells him not to leave. Marshall even warns him about the curse of The Blitz which the future Ted goes on to explain. Whenever their old college friend, Steve, bailed early within a group, amazing stuff would happen. In spite of all the flashbacks, Ted continues with his decision and even goes on to say that he doesn’t believe in the curse and that it isn’t real.
As fate had it, Ted awakens to find the apartment in a wreck the very next morning thus making him the Blitz. The rest of the gang with Steve and Ted’s arch-enemy Zoey all are present in the apartment after a legendary night.

In a series of not-so-amusing events for Lily, it is revealed that Eriksen babies are born abnormally sized which sends her in a frightening state.
Meanwhile, Ted and Robin who have no plans for the holiday decide to volunteer at a soup kitchen. To everyone’s surprise, we find that Barney has been helping in the kitchen and is even regarded as the best among the staff.
While in a shocking revelation that ultimately leads to Ted, Robin, and Barney getting kicked out of the kitchen, the trio spends their Thanksgiving in a strip club so as to make it up to an infuriated Barney.
