BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 19 (Xinhua) — Midfielder Giuliano Galoppo scored twice in three second-half minutes as Banfield climbed to the top of Argentina’s Professional League Cup Group A standings on Friday with a 2-0 win at Arsenal Sarandi.
Galoppo gave his side the lead in the 47th minute by drilling a low first-time effort past goalkeeper Nicolas Navarro after a bungled Arsenal clearance.
The 21-year-old doubled the visitors’ advantage with a diving header after Emanuel Coronel beat two defenders and whipped in a sumptuous cross from the right flank.
Banfield, who lost to Boca Juniors in the final of the last edition of the tournament in January, now lead the 13-team Group A standings with two wins from as many matches. Arsenal are 12th, having lost both of their opening two fixtures.
In Friday’s only other game, Gimnasia cruised to a 3-0 home victory over Talleres Cordoba. Marcelo Weigandt, Brahian Aleman and Lucas Barrios were on target for the hosts.
