HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — One woman was found dead in the 1000 block of W. Nine Mile Road on Thursday afternoon. The Henrico Police Department is now investigating her death as a homicide.
A tweet from police says they were called to scene around 2:30 p.m. for a suspicious situation. Once police arrived, officers found the adult female inside an apartment home and pronounced her dead at the scene.
8News spoke with Katrina McLaughlin, the victim’s sister, who has identified her as 37-year-old Tiffany Yellardy. McLaughlin says Yellardy’s 12-year-old daughter found her inside the home.
“My niece came home from school and found her momma like that. I got the call at 2:30, so there’s no telling how long she’d been laying in that apartment,” McLaughlin told 8News.
“I want justice for my sister. She didn’t deserve this. She’s a hardworking mother,” McLaughlin added.
As police conitnue to investigate the homicide, details about how Yellardy died are unknown.
“I don’t know if she got shot or if she got stabbed. All I know, she’s in the house, it’s blood in the house. They will not let me go in there to see her,” said McLaughlin Thursday evening.
She believes Yellardy’s husband may be responsible for her death.
In a tweet, police said investigators are not looking for help from the public to identify a suspect at this time.
