Arsenal have confirmed that defender Gabriel has tested positive for coronavirus and is in self-isolation for the foreseeable future – which means he’ll miss the coming match with West Brom.
Gabriel signed for the Gunners in the summer from Lille for a fee of around £23m, and he’d made an early impact at the Emirates Stadium in what has been a difficult campaign.
The youngster has scored twice in 15 appearances to date, but he didn’t appear in the win over Chelsea and he won’t feature in the next two league matches for Arsenal after falling ill with Covid.
He is now in self-isolation for the remainder of the festive period and the club are optimistic that they’ll have him available once more when they welcome Newcastle United to the capital in the FA Cup third round next month.
But in the meantime he’ll miss meetings with Brighton at the AMEX Stadium and Albion at The Hawthorns.

Arsenal revealed the positive case as part of an injury update: “He has tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating according to UK Government and Premier League protocols.
“We will continue to monitor and support Gabriel, and we are hoping he will be available again after our next two matches.”
Elsewhere, Brazilian pair Willian and David Luiz are back in contention for the game; their return to training after a period of illness has been pencilled in for New Year’s Eve.
Midfielder Thomas Partey who, like Gabriel arrived at the club in the summer, is back training on the grass after suffering a thigh injury earlier this month.
