Spotify Lossless Feature

In February 2021, Spotify announced that it will soon launch the Spotify HiFi feature or Spotify lossless feature. The platform described the feature as a feature that will let Spotify Premium users “upgrade their sound quality” to a “CD-quality, lossless audio format.”

The lossless quality of the audio stands for the audio stream containing exactly the same sonic detail as its source. The lossless quality of the audio is also called CD quality which means the audio streaming is encoded with 16-bit depth and a 44.1kHz sampling rate.

The intention behind the feature is that you will get to listen to the music the same way the artist intended to. As of now, Spotify streams audio at 320Kbps, which means the audio has been compressed and is thus losing some fine details in order to conserve the bandwidth.

One of the main reasons why the launch of Spotify HiFi has been delayed is because of the cost effect. Earlier it was announced that only “premium subscribers in select markets will be able to upgrade their sound quality to Spotify HiFi”.
