
Sarah Casario spoke to Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 from her hospital bed on Friday. Doctors at AHN Hempfield are treating her for COVID-19 and pneumonia. Casario said she decided to go to the hospital last week after her symptoms worsened. “You never think that it will be you,” she said. “I’m exhausted. I’m short of breath. My oxygen drops as soon as I stand up.”Her family and boyfriend are unable to visit her, so this Christmas is different. Casario said she’s a healthcare worker in Westmoreland County on the frontlines fighting the virus. She is also a new fur mom to Piper, an Australian Cattle dog mix and the inspiration for a request she put out to her community.“I just love pets and animals,” she said. “It puts a smile on my face.”On Facebook she wrote: “Like me and many other people in hospitals, I am going to be at AHN Hempfiled inpatient for Christmas with pneumonia and Covid, if someone can help cheer me up by showing me a picture of your puppy/fur baby or say a prayer for me, I’d appreciate it.”Her neighbors did not disappoint. More than 2,000 comments are on the post, with pictures of pets. “Anything and everything,” she said. “People are sending me pictures.”Casario is alone in a hospital room fighting a deadly virus, but she found hope online. “I know that people love me and they care about me and they want to see me better,” she said.
