Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz faces no police action after a video appeared to show him driving while holding his mobile phone.
West Midlands Police launched an investigation after the video was posted on the footballer’s Instagram account.
In it, the Brazil international appeared to be singing and holding his mobile phone while driving.
But nearly two months later, the force said he would face no action.
Luiz, aged 22, posted the footage to his Instagram account in January but removed it several hours later.
A member of the public spotted the video and sent it to West Midlands Police, which said its traffic investigation unit would “assess the evidence and decide how to proceed”.
BirminghamLive has seen the video, which appears to show the footballer driving his car while being filmed.
He was singing loudly as he drove and appeared to be holding his phone with the same hand as the steering wheel.
In the few hours the video was on Luiz’s Instagram account, Villa fans condemned his actions.
TheWhiskyWonderer said: “We love you Doug but get that phone outta ya hand.”
While Jamespavafc said: “Love ya but put the f****** phone down .”
West Midlands Police said traffic officers had concluded their investigation and had decided Luiz would not face any action.
A spokeswoman said: “No action has been taken. We could not identify a location, time or date for a prosecution.”
Luiz joined Villa in July 2019 and his current market value is at least £25 million.
He previously played for Manchester City but moved to Villa for a transfer fee of around £15 million.
Aston Villa previously refused to comment.
