VIlla given Newcastle instruction
Aston Villa have been advised to look at signing Newcastle United wing wizard Allan Saint-Maximin.
Villa are expected to strengthen their squad once again this summer with the Express & Star reporting that a winger and a forward will be targeted in the transfer market, while a ‘number ten’ and a defender are also under consideration.
Bertrand Traore was signed last year to add to Villa head coach Dean Smith’s options on the wing with Anwar El Ghazi and Trezeguet competing for the opposite flank to captain Jack Grealish.
Villa were challenging for the top four until a run of one win in seven games, that coincided with an injury to Grealish, knocked them out of contention and down towards mid-table.
Grealish reacts to Haaland moment
Villa captain Grealish has defended the assistant referee who asked Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland for his autograph after the Champions League clash against Manchester City.
Haaland was on the losing side in Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg tie, with City running out 2-1 winners at the Etihad.
Romanian official Octavian Sovre waited for Haaland in the tunnel after the match before approaching the Norway international and asking him for his autograph.
It was picked up by the BT Sport cameras, and City boss Pep Guardiola admitted he had never seen such an incident in his career.

Sherwood reveals why Redknapp blocked move
Villa captain Grealish was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2018.
It was reported that the 25-year-old was on the verge of completing a transfer to the London club with Grealish himself admitting that the deal was almost done.
However, with new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens taking over from Tony Xia that meant Villa had the financial capabilities to keep hold of Grealish and promise him the club were on an upward trajectory under their leadership.
That has proved to be the case, with Smith’s Villa looking bang on for a top-half finish in their second season back in the Premier League.
Villa player ‘gutted’ as transfer is confirmed
Villa youngster Viljami Sinisal has had his loan spell with Scottish Championship side Ayr United brought to an end.
The 19-year-old has returned to parent club Villa for treatment on a groin injury, leaving Ayr without a first-choice goalkeeper for their final quartet of games.
Ayr are looking to secure their second-tier status with only one point separating them from Greenock Morton in ninth place and the prospect of a play-off with one of the top League One teams.
Sinisalo has made 22 appearances for Ayr this season after joining David Hopkin’s side on loan in September.
