The chief antagonist in Demon Slayer, Muzan Kibutsuji is the undisputed strongest Demon. The Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer is an organization of the 12 strongest demons after demon lord Muzan himself. Muzan’s blood is the elixir and the source of these demons’ strength. The more blood they received, the stronger they became. The Twelve Kizuki are the 12 demons that received greater portions of their master’s blood and became exponentially stronger than the other demons in existence.
The Twelve Kizuki or the Twelve Demon Moons can use Blood Demon Arts, and other supernatural powers and techniques, thanks to Muzan’s blood. With special membership marks engraved on their eyes, The Twelve Kizuki is divided into two groups. The six weakest are called Lower Ranks, having a single eye engraved, and the six strongest are called the Upper Ranks having both eyes engraved.
These extremely powerful demons trifle human life as they see fit. Though the upper ranks despise the lower ranks, according to Muzan, and the lower ranks have been defeated a few times throughout the series, The Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer are not to be messed around with. Especially the upper ranks are evidently awfully powerful. Their use of the Blood Demon Arts and how gruesomely they use them are evidence of their mephistophelean might.
Who are the Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer?
The mission of The Twelve Kizuki is the mission of their Lord, Muzan Kibutsuji, which we will not go into detail about. Yet, it is worth mentioning that because of their failures at missions for over a hundred years, Muzan decided to encumber them with a success or death module of carrying out the missions.
Not all the Twelve Kizuki have been introduced in the series. So, this list can be your unsolicited spoiler. In that case, spare me the cuss and curse. The Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer or Twelve Moons are
The Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer
|Lower Moon 1||Enmu|
|Lower Moon 2||Rokuro|
|Lower Moon 3||Wakuraba|
|Lower Moon 4||Mukago|
|Lower Moon 5||Rui|
|Lower Moon 6||Kamanue|
Note: The Lower Ranks are the demons whose positions and membership are more volatile than Upper Ranks. Muzan finally kills all the Lower Moons except Enmu for being useless to his goals.
1. Enmu | Lower Moon 1
The strongest of the Lower Moons, Enmu, was a sadistic demon. He was a devotee of Muzan. His specialty was that through his Blood Demon Art he could invade people’s dreams to essentially kill them. He was entrusted with the task of killing Hashiro and Tanjiro. To his astonishment, he failed!
2. Rokuro | Lower Moon 2
The lower moon 2, Rokuro, was inducted to the 12 Kizuki in Demon Slayer after eliminating the former Lower Moon 2 – Hairo. He was killed by Muzan when he tried to ask Muzan for more power. Other than this, there isn’t much information laid out by the serial about this demon or its abilities and strength.
3. Wakuraba | Lower Moon 3
Wakuraba tried to escape. Although, he was the most loyal of all the Lower Moons. Wakuraba was also killed in the Mugen train arc despite having great speed. He tried to run from Muzan only to succumb to his obvious death.
4. Mukago | Lower Moon 4
A speck of the very little information known about Mukago is that she was short-heighted. Muzan’s deduction that she was more frightened of the Demon Slayers than Muzan brought her doom. Muzan killed her along with a bunch of other lower-rank demons in the Mugen train arc. In the series Demon Slayer, this character was not shown with significance.
5. Rui | Lower Moon 5
The demon king transformed this short human into a lower rank demon of The Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer. Rui was a sickly child before becoming a demon. He killed his parents in self-defense. He was obsessed with growing a family of his own, which probably sprouted from his guilt of murdering his parents.
Despite Rui’s threads being extremely powerful, his Blood Demon Art was worthless against Giyu, the Hashira. Giyu decapitated this demon with a single move.
6. Kamanue | Lower Moon 6
There isn’t much known about Kamanue’s strength and demonic powers, but he was stronger than Kyogai. He succeeded Kyogai after Muzan expelled him from the 12 Kizuki in Demon Slayer. It is shown indirectly that Kamanue felt weak and that he had a nervous personality. He is undoubtedly one of the weakest Kizuki and thus, placed at the lowest rank of Lower Moon 6.
The Upper Ranks in the Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer
|Upper Moon 1||Kokushibou|
|Upper Moon 2||Doma|
|Upper Moon 3||Akaza|
|Upper Moon 4||Nakime|
|Upper Moon 5||Gyokko|
|Upper Moon 6||Kaigaku|
Note: Each of these demons in the Upper Ranks has lived more than a hundred years. They have exterminated dozens of Hashira or Demon Slayers.

Originally a Demon Slayer (then Mitchikatsu Tsukiguni), Kokushibou is the most powerful among the 12 Kizuki in Demon Slayer anime and manga. He holds the title of Upper One. 2. Doma | Upper Moon 2
The nihilist demon of the Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer holds the position of the Upper Rank 2. His parents had built a religious cult around him which he assumed control of after their death. He started eating his followers after being transformed by Muzan.
Doma’s utter lack of empathy makes him a menacing foe. He feeds on a lot of beautiful women in the Demon Slayer anime. His primary Blood Demon Art weapon is cryokinesis.
3. Akaza | Upper Moon 3
Akaza is the third most powerful demon in The Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer. He detests whoever he deems weak. He gives a chance only to the ones he considers strong to become demons. His human name was Hakuji, and his father committed suicide when he was very young. A martial artist adopted him and taught him. However, he fell in love with his master’s daughter Koyuki. He committed suicide during a fight after regaining memories of his human life.
4. Nakime | Upper Moon 4
Nakime was a biwa-playing demon who was in control of the Infinity Castle, Kibutsuji’s base of operations. Unlike other demon moons, she was a disturbing character in her human life. A struggling musician who liked to murder before performances. She tried to kill Kibutsuji; impressed by her, the demon king bestowed upon her a new life of a demon moon. During a confrontation, she was restrained, and she prompted Muzan to kill her to protect the fortress.
5. Gyokko | Upper Moon 5
Gyokko is the most sadist Kizuki. He is also a profound narcissist. No one could beat him in these categories. He is also a self-proclaimed artist and takes immense pride in his creations, one of his creations being twisting bodies while still alive and sculpting them into something grotesque. Muichiro kills him.
6. Kaigaku | Upper Moon 6
Originally a member of the slayer corps, Kaigaku learned the “Thunder Breathing” from Jigoro. He betrayed the slayer corps and let Kokushibo transform him into a demon among The Twelve Kizuki in Demon Slayer. Jigoro committed seppuku in atonement. Zenitsu, who learned the “Thunder Breathing” alongside Kaigaku, later killed him. Zenitsu learned the first six techniques of “Thunder Breathing,” whereas Kaigaku learned the other five.
