UFC featherweight title challenger, Megan Anderson, took to social media and released a comprehensive post-fight statement following UFC 259. The Australian fighter fell victim to Amanda Nunes’ wrath whilst trying to capture the elusive 145-pound title from the consensus GOAT. ‘The Lioness’ made short work of Anderson and proved once again why she’s looked at as the best.
Nunes sparked Anderson early in the contest, and it was clear from the get-go that Megan Anderson was in for a fight. The challenger went for an ill-fated takedown that only served to add more punishment on the feet. Nunes then followed the Aussie to the ground and finished off the fight via triangle armbar, mercifully some might add.
In the days following the bout, news broke that Megan Anderson was no longer part of the UFC’s roster. She was fighting on the last fight of her deal, and it wasn’t a surprise that the organization didn’t renew her contract. Anderson aired out her thoughts following her UFC release and let fans know what was on her mind.

Megan Anderson and the chaotic UFC featherweight division
The women’s 145-pound division has been in limbo for a meaningful period, more or less since its inception. The weight class was largely created for starfighters like Cris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes. However, with the passage of time, the division never truly filled out with contenders and remained largely dormant.
With the absence of Megan Anderson from the company’s ranks, it figures to reason that the division may perish in due time. Unless the UFC signs some talent in short order, Amanda Nunes won’t have anyone to defend her title against. The only meaningful match-up taking place is Felicia Spencer vs Danyelle Wolfe, both of whom aren’t viable contenders.
As for Megan Anderson, she’ll be keen to take her talents to another organization with a more flush 145-pound division. Looking at her size and frame, she won’t be able to make 135-pounds, thus narrowing her options going forward. However, the skills she’s showcased thus far will certainly entice any major promotion to scalp her along the way.
