It is that time. Yes, we are talking about The Witcher and The Game of Thrones. Disclaimer: I am a massive fan of GOT (the Books and the TV Show), and we do not talk about the last season in this house, Period. Just so you didn’t figure it out, this post is about The Witcher and the Game of Thrones, and which of them is the best TV Show?

Game of Throne is the most extensive fantasy TV series. HBO’s Game of Throne and the one-season-old Netflix’s The Witcher are in a quarrel of which is the bigger TV show. Since GOT ended, fans are looking for their next obsession. The Witcher is leaping the next favorite category.

In my opinion, between the two TV series, Game of Thrones is better than The Witcher. The show offers everything you can think of, wars, battles, murders, medieval politics, dragons, sassy queens, prophecies, magic, witches, love, betrayal, drama, and did I mention Dragons?

Let’s get into breaking down both the TV Shows and find the differences and similarities between them both. Read till the end to find you which is the better show and why?

The Witcher VS Game of Thrones

The moment Netflix dropped the new series “The Witcher,” people started speculating about it. I decided to watch the Series and look for myself if the new show is worthy of being compared to the epic saga Game of Thrones. Let me tell you, and I didn’t expect me to like the show.

Source Material

Game of Throne

Just like Game of Thrones, The Witcher is also an adaptation. HBO adapted GOT from the very famous book series written by George R. R. Martin. The book series is yet to be completed, whereas HBO has wrapped up the show.

A Song of Ice and Fire was the primary source for the Game of Thrones series. There is a considerable debate on the books and the adapted Series (which I might deal with later). The books are no doubt flawless, with excellent narrative skills and character development. The Series, on the other hand, had impeccable cinematography. A vivid engagement is created throughout the show.

The Witcher

The Witcher is also a book adaptation. This book might not be as famous as The Game of Thrones: A Song of Ice and Fire. However, Witcher also already had a huge fan base because of the game.

Most people knew about the character from the video game franchise. This is why The Witcher is popular among gamers as well as critics. Of course, there is a massive difference between the game’s visuals and the TV show, but people do relate and recognize the Geralt of Rivia.

Drama and Intrigue

Game of Thrones

With the episodes like the Red Wedding, The Battle of Bastards, the occasional stances of forbidden love between sister and brother, aunt and nephew, one thing is clear that Game of Thrones breeds drama and intrigues.

Each conversation foreshadowed a conspiracy that kept the audience hooked at every moment. There are so many conversations and dialogue that people remember by heart. It is because of the intrigued these dialogues build.

One of the main themes of GOT was medieval politics. This politics played a huge role in the engagement and created a great interest among the audience.

The Witcher

How could The Witcher stay behind in drama? Trust me when I say that this Series offers a great deal of drama. Yes, The Witcher is much more a story about its main characters’ private journeys than Game of Thrones.

However, that is not to say it doesn’t come with its intricate microcosm of fascinating politics, court intrigues, and power plays, as the mighty Empire of Nilfgaard casts an eye on the Northern Kingdoms … and on one kingdom in particular.

The Witcher’s season finale will likely adapt the Battle of Sodden, the decisive confrontation of the first war against Nilfgaard.

Monsters and Dragons

Game of Thrones

The Game of Thrones dragons is Drogon (black and red), Rhaegal (green and bronze), and Viserion (cream and gold). The dragons in Game of Thrones first appear at the climax of the season. Their birth is shown right after the death of Daenerys’s husband, Khal Drogo.

Dragons in the season play a significant role in keeping the whole story together. In Game of Thrones, Dragons have a back story that is very similar to the water monster in The Witcher. These beautiful, dangerous creatures from a special place in the hearts of the audience.

Even though we are not supposed to talk about the final season, I cannot forget the last scene.

The Witcher

Who doesn’t want to watch Geralt kicking asses of some monsters? At the beginning of the season, we come to know that Geralt is here to beat some monsters. He is a mystically enhanced monster hunter. The most exciting part is that he is alone on this path. His vigor and eagerness to complete all his tasks will keep you hooked to the screens.

He is one of the last witchers on the continent, which makes him the legend of his times. His honesty and dedication towards his responsibilities will make you feel proud of him and make you feel sad and pity.

The main job of a witcher is to fight and kill the monsters. The Witcher: Geralt is just fantastic at his job. You cannot help yourself from being in awe watching the fighting scenes and, of course, the occasional bath!

Legacy

Game of Thrones

Although the TV Series is based on a book series, HBO hasn’t hesitated to add its species. GOT is one of the most outstanding fantasy fiction of all time. It has set standards to the next level. No other show can reach up to the level of the fanbase that GOT has.

There is no doubt in the fact that GOT has created its fantastic legacy. It would be impossible to live up to the achievements of the epic show, Game of Thrones.

We indeed saw confusion and dilemma in the writers throughout the show. HBO appeared to keep changing its mind all around the Series.

The Witcher

A significant number of the fanbase knew about the characters of The Witcher through games and books. Although, there were a few people who heard about The Witcher through Netflix.

The first season of the TV Show was by no means perfect. It had its bad moments and loopholes. But one thing that everyone agrees on is that the show has immense potential to be as great as Game of Thrones.

We are hoping that Netflix brings the 2nd season with a bang and rule all over again. You never know The Witcher might become the next best fantasy fiction.

Final Thought

The Witcher is a new TV series on Netflix with just 1 season and many yet to come! I would want to give a fair chance to the new series. However, if I had to choose just one between them, I would choose Game of Throne. The series is epic in formation and grant in execution. Still, I cannot wait for more seasons of The Witcher.
