On top of the official release date of 17th of December later this year that was announced during the WitcherCon, fans were also blessed with a trailer video of the upcoming season. Netflix took to its official YouTube channel on July 10 to post the first teaser trailer of the OTT platform’s hit original series, The Witcher, returning with a sequel season.
The last season’s finale that premiered back in December 2019 left fans with the relief and satisfaction of Geralt and Ciri finally crossing each other’s paths after a season full of searching and finding each other in order to fulfill their destiny.
And as per the trailer, the plot likely seems to pick up after their reunion with our favorite witcher (played by Henry Cavill) taking princess Ciri (played by Freya Allen) to his homeland of Kaer Morhen as a stronghold for her safekeeping.
Geralt’s Journey Home to Kaer Morhen – The Witcher 2
This is also supported with the official teaser poster art showcasing both Geralt and Ciri on top of a mountain peak with their backs turned to the camera. The iconic duo can be seen heading towards what seems to be the White Wolf’s home, Kaer Morhen.
In Kaer Morhen, which is also the title of one of the eight episodes for the upcoming season, princess Cirilla will be trained by a witcher named Lambert, as depicted in the image released as part of the promotion of The Witcher Season 2.
Located in the mountains of Hertch in Kaedwen’s kingdom, the books describe the journey to Kaer Morhen’s castle as “The Killer” trail. Add to it the fact that we’ll also get to see the School of the Wolf where Geralt was trained and you’ve got an exciting and adventurous plotline.
In the following October updates posted via the official Twitter account of The Witcher, we even witnessed Ciri’s new costume while she learns to fight in order to prepare for the upcoming challenges and threats.
If you want to know what the sequel season of The Witcher will entail, here’s the official synopsis of Season 2 as released by Netflix,
“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”

In addition to all that, the trailer’s ending scene cuts to a very much alive Yennefer. While she does seem to be a prisoner, the October tweet updates confirm her being a captive as she is depicted wearing chains.
But how did she exactly survive the fallout of the Season 1 finale? And what does destiny have in store for Geralt of Rivia? All of these questions will get subsequently answered by this year’s end.
We’d love to hear from you! So, do let us know your thoughts about Geralt’s journey to his home, Kaer Morhen, in the comment box below.
