In the global virtual event of the celebration of The Witcher as the internationally hit game, book, and TV series, fans were teased with a lot of revelations including The Witcher Season 2 poster. The digital convention marked the first-ever WitcherCon co-hosted by Netflix and CD Projekt Red onto their own YouTube and Twitch streaming channels.
Split into two streams starting July 9 at 10 PM and then the following 6 AM, the teaser art was unveiled during The Witcher Season 2: Deck of Destiny panel featuring Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, Mimî M Khayisa, Paul Bullion, and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as the panelists.
The Witcher Season 2 poster showcases both Geralt and Ciri in the center with the former appearing to be her protector and guardian that he set out to be in the events of the ending of season 1 as part of the “destiny.” If you don’t remember The Witcher’s first season, we recommend you to check out this awesome recap video.
Furthermore, the destined duo seems to be headed towards what seems like the witcher stronghold of Kaer Morhen (Geralt’s home).
The Witcher Season 2 Poster Unveiled
And as far as the relationship between Geralt and Ciri is concerned, showrunner and executive producer, Lauren Hissrich explained,
“At the end of Season 1, we have what I think is one of the sort of most emotional scenes that we’ve done, which is Geralt and Ciri finding each other after they’ve both been searching all season… And it seems like we’ve got a father figure and daughter figure, and everything’s going to be perfect at that point, except for they’ve never met. And so it was really fun to start Season 2 thinking about, well, they’re not a family yet.”
“How do they grow to be one? What do you do if you are a person like Geralt, who has sworn he doesn’t need anyone in the world whatsoever? And then he’s presented with a girl who is now solely in his care. And we have Ciri, who’s used to being under the care of people but has basically been running from everyone for an entire season and now being told that this person is going to take care of you.”
“And so it was really fun to start Season 2 kind of them a little uncertain about how to be with each other, and they have to really grow into that. We wanted to make sure that felt like an authentic relationship, that they weren’t just bonded at the very beginning.” she further added.
In addition to the Season 2 poster, fans were also blessed with new images of the Princess of Cintra, Cirilla being trained by Lambert, one of the new additions to the upcoming series.
Along with the image of the fan-favorite Jaskier that portrays him in a new costume and longer hair, the WitcherCon also presented the teaser video revealing The Witcher Season 2 episode titles except for the top-secret season finale.
While the production was halted due to the obvious health restrictions and challenges posed by the COVID 19 pandemic, filming wrapped up in April. Now, fans have to wait only a couple of months before The Witcher Season 2 officially hits Netflix on December 17, 2021.
