The revelation of episode titles of The Witcher Season 2 that came via the show’s official Twitter account back in July 2021 saw the second episode of the upcoming season of the widely popular Netflix Original being named Kaer Morhen.
The fact that it has been named as a title episode hints towards the importance of the place. But how exactly is it going to shape up and serve the plot of The Witcher sequel? Well, that’s what we’re going to figure out. Follow through but be advised as you might end up reading some potential spoiler information.
Kaer Morhen | Location, Significance, and More
Now, with the warning out of the way, let’s begin with the explanations of Kaer Morhen and its possible significance in the Netflix-adapted TV series.
Kaer Morhen not only serves as a very important place in The Witcher universe but it is also a special place for the series’ destined duo of Geralt of Rivia (played by Henry Cavill) and Princess Cirilla of Cintra, better known as Ciri (played by Freya Allan).
Described in the original book series of Andrzej Sapkowski as an old keep of the Elder Sea, Kaer Morhen is the place where witchers including our favorite White Wolf got their training at the School of the Wolf. And after the events of the first season, Ciri and Geralt are likely headed towards the fortress as suggested by the official synopsis of Season 2 released by Netflix,
“If you want to know what the sequel season of The Witcher will entail, here’s “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
If we’re going by the books, the castle of Kaer Morhen is located in the mountainous region of Hertch in the kingdom of Kaedwen. ‘The Witchers’ trail to the castle that’s right off the Gwenllech river is nicknamed ‘The Killer’ pertaining to its infamously dangerous and deadly history of the ‘Sacking of Kaer Morhen.’
The Kaer Morhen episode will likely feature Vesemir (played by Kim Bodnia), a witcher and the mentor to Geralt. Along with the Vesemir, other witchers including the additions of Eskel (played by Basil Eidenbenz) and Lambert (played by Paul Bullion) will make it on the screens once Season 2 hits Netflix on December 17, 2021.
Ker Morhen will not just be the stronghold for Ciri and Geralt for most of the season but also the training grounds for Ciri. This is confirmed by the images that depict her training with Lambert in order to prepare for the fights to come.
