The time to toss coins to your favorite witcher is just around the corner. The much-awaited season 2 of one of the biggest Netflix originals, The Witcher, is scheduled to air on the popular OTT platform on December 17.
The widely popular action-adventure serial drama is the adaptation of the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski. The follow-up season’s release date will mark almost a two-year time gap since the first season was originally released on December 20, 2019.

The Witcher Season 2 Trailer
In addition to the official teaser trailer of The Witcher: Season 2, fans also got some interesting revelations in the video posted to Twitter by Netflix Geeked earlier last month. The tweeted video gives the confirmation that the premiere episode of the second installment of the series is adapted from the works of Sapkowski’s A Grain of Truth.
In the video, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich even admits the revelation to be the TV series’ worst-kept secret. Describing the episode as the perfect opening for season 2, she continued, “It’s about family… It’s a story of a father and daughter coming together in a place that doesn’t quite feel safe for them.”
Just like with The Witcher’s first season that adapted from several short stories of The Last Wish collection by Andrzej Sapkowski, the fact that we’ll get to see the upcoming season kick-off with the same trend is quite enticeful, to say the least. It’s almost as if we get to see Geralt featuring in side quests before the actual showdown of the series.
With a number of additions to the cast, fans will be introduced to the prominent character of ‘Nivellen’ portrayed by Kristofer Hivju in the first episode of The Witcher’s season 2.
Talking about the original short story of A Grain of Truth, the plot features Geralt’s meeting with the man-beast, Nivellen, and the tale of the events that led to the latter being in his current cursed state. While we don’t want to get into the depth of the plotline and potentially spoil it, the story in the TV series will likely follow the footsteps of Nivellen and Geralt breaking the curse within a rather gore and action-packed episode.
Regarding Nivellen, Hissrich further added in the featurette, “We get to explore his character and his backstory with Geralt” as well as the kick-off episode being “[…]about the secrets that we keep from each other, and the monsters that we are inside sometimes.“
