The 20 most searched for summer holiday destinations for 2021

Travellers hoping for a summer break are making tentative plans to get away after Government’s announcements on easing lockdown in England.

Travel website Booking.com has reported an increase in searches since roadmaps out of Covid restrictions were revealed for England, Scotland and Wales this week.

Domestic travel appears to be the focus for cautious travellers, with eight out of ten the most searched for destinations in the UK – twice as many as 2020.

Cornwall, Devon, Yorkshire and The Highlands have all seen a noticeable recent increase in searches.

However, holiday-goers hopeful for European breaks remains strong, with Croatia, France and Spain among the most sought-after places for a holiday overseas.

Ryan Pearson, Regional Manager at Booking.com said: “Since the Government announcement yesterday there seems to be a real sense of optimism amongst us Brits and I am sure I am not the only one who is counting down the days until travel restrictions are eased.

“In light of the vaccine rollout and with many of us eager to experience the world once again, there is no surprise that we are seeing an increase in bookings for domestic summer getaways in particular – I personally cannot wait for some sun and sea with my family and the UK has so much to offer.

“We look forward to travel resuming when the time is right, and this is great news not only for travellers, but also for the tourism industry and economy as whole.”
