Strictly fans rage at public’s ‘disgusting’ treatment of Maisie Smith

Strictly Come Dancing fans have criticised other viewers for the disgusting ‘hate’ they give Maisie Smith after she landed in the bottom two for the second week in a row.

Despite a score of 27 and some great feedback from the judges after she and pro partner Gorka Marquez did a salsa to a Meghan Trainor’s Better When You’re Dancing, the young EastEnders star nearly found herself out of the competition again, after not finding favour with the voting public.

This time the 19-year-old actress had to battle it out against fellow actress and former Men Behaving Badly favourite Caroline Quentin to stay on Strictly for another week after Caroline and her dancing partner in crime Johannes Radebe failed to find enough public support with their cha cha cha on Saturday night.

And, while Caroline too has her fair share of fans thanks to her performances over the past month, it was Maisie landing in the bottom two for a second time, that proved too much for some viewers to take, as they accused others of being jealous of a strong young woman and mistaking her confidence for arrogance.

Taking to Twitter, one blasted: “The amount of bitterness on here towards Strictly’s Maisie Smith – a 19 year old girl – because she’s good looking and confident is astounding Same people with the “ #BeKind ” who preach about mental health,” and another tweeted: “Everyone that’s as shocked as I am that Maisie was in the bottom two for 2 weeks in a row need to get voting for them next week. This s*** is mindblowing, the public really hate confident young women, it’s disgusting to see. Vote for Maisie and gorka next week!

A third reacted: “Never normally a strictly fan, but watching it this year because I absolutely love Maisie Smith and its actually disgusting to see how many comments there are about her being “over confident” or “arrogant.” young women cannot win and I’m so sick of it.

And another posted: “…I’’m just sick of people saying she’s “cocky” or “arrogant”. No one would say this if she was older or a guy, people just can’t stand seeing a talented, confidant young woman and it’s awful to see.”
