Shooting outside of Beachwood Place Mall leaves man injured; suspect in custody

BEACHWOOD, Ohio — A man is in police custody Saturday after a shooting took place outside of Beachwood Place Mall. 

The shooting happened just before 2:00 p.m. and involved two men who police suspect knew each other. Officers do not believe the incident was a random act of violence. 

The victim, whose identity has not been released, suffered gunshot wounds to the arm and pelvis and underwent surgery at a local hospital. He is currently recovering in the ICU, according to Beachwood Police Chief Kelly Stillman. 


No other injuries have been reported at this time. 

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation assisted in the processing of evidence at the crime scene. Officers from other local agencies also provided support in the early stages of the incident.

Stillman says detectives are following leads and the investigation is in progress.
