The memes flying about of an elderly person reminiscing with a younger relative of the time when pubs and nightclubs were open have brought a welcome smile to our faces amid what feels like a lifetime of Glasgow being under lockdown restrictions.
Galavantin’ as we know it has been well and truly put on ice as we try and do our best to keep our spirits up with zoom calls, quizzes and by tuning in to the odd virtual gigs or DJ sets our talented pals have been doing to give us some semblance of a party.
And while the majority of us look forward to the first time we can get dolled up and head out the door to meet up with our pals again and paint the town red – we think we might have found the perfect ‘meantime’ tonic.
It comes in the form of a video of some Glaswegians partying it up in a city takeaway from January of 2019 that has resurfaced online after it was shared on Facebook group ‘acumfaegovan’.
The two minute video, shared by local Richard Ternahan, illustrates perfectly what you might encounter on a late-night visit to a takeaway to treat yourself to a wee post-couple-of-sherries munch to take up the road with you – a group of folk turning the tiled floor into their very own dancefloor to keep the party going on.
Even the folk behind the counter get caught up in the fun, soundtracked to Billy Jean by Michael Jackson and – as you’d bet your mortgage on – a few ‘Here We’ chants thrown into the mix for good measure.
We cracked up when we spotted the video and think everyone else will to. And we couldn’t help but think that, aside from making us laugh and have us doing a wee shoogle, it made us realise that the good times will indeed return.
Hang in there folks, as Erasure sang on their hit Stop!, ‘we’ll be together again’…chips and cheese in hand in the takeaway dancing our backsides off as Glaswegians do better than anyone.
