Outback Steakhouse in Fremont closes permanently

The Bloomin’ Onion has left the building.

This week, the Outback Steakhouse chain shuttered its Fremont restaurant permanently.

The closing of this Stevenson Boulevard location leaves the group with seven steakhouses in the Bay Area — and all are offering meals to go, including specials for Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day.

According to the website, most of the remaining Bay Area Outbacks are in the East Bay: Dublin, Pinole, Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill and Vacaville.

The only South Bay Outback is in Milpitas at the Great Mall. There were three a few years ago, but the Campbell/Pruneyard restaurant closed in 2018 and the San Jose/Blossom Hill one the year after that.

The Peninsula has one Outback in operation — in Daly City.

The Australian-inspired steakhouse group was founded in Tampa. The headquarters remains in that city, and Florida is home to the nation’s largest concentration of Outbacks (94). Most of the California Outbacks are located in Southern California.
