Navajo family behind Native Art Market opens Old Town Scottsdale store

Heather Tracy remembers being as young as 5 years old when she discovered her mom’s life dream. Her mother Denise Rosales wanted to create a space for Native artisans to present not only their crafts, but also their stories.

Tracy is now 33 and that vision is finally coming true.

“It has been a longtime dream of ours,” Tracy said. “It became (my) and my sister’s dream as well.”

Nov. 21 marks the opening of the Old Town Scottsdale storefront location for Native Art Market, an open-air market that takes place during the winter months on the Salt River-Pima Maricopa Indian Community.

Rosales has spent the last two years looking for a permanent space for the market — one where they could host events and Native artists could exhibit their works year-round.
