Meta AI: The Past, Present, & Future Discussed!

Meta AI

With all the big companies venturing into Artificial Intelligence, how could Meta stay behind? The recent announcements from the Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, point towards the development of Meta AI. Yes, Meta will soon be releasing AI tools for all its platforms.

Its competitor, Snapchat, has already been making rounds in the news for using Generative AI in Snapchat spectacles and its recently launched AI Chatbot, My AI. With every platform trying to enter into the field of AI, Meta is not one to stay behind.

Zuckerberg has always been a pioneer in the social media industry. However, a lot of people are unaware that Meta ventured into the AI industry long before Open AI gained its popularity. Let’s talk about that and what we can expect from Meta AI in the future in the article below!

Meta AI: The Past Experiments!

Meta released its own AI Chatbot  â€” Blenderbot and Galactica, in the year 2022. However, these two chatbots gained popularity for the wrong reasons. Blenderbot got famous for its conspiracy theories and racist answers. Galactica, a chatbot designed to assist scientists and scholars, died out because it reproduced false facts.

Open AI, a recent entrant into the AI industry, took the market by storm because of the way it was built and reformed. While initially, it showed a lot of errors, the developers took them under consideration and sorted them out.

However, that was not the case with Meta’s AI chatbots. Both of Meta’s AI chatbots fizzled out soon and became an infamous experiment done by the company.

What Can Be The Expected Future of Meta AI?

In recent news, Meta has dedicated a team to build several tools that will be powered by Artificial intelligence. Mark Zuckerberg, in his recent Facebook post, stated, “We’re creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative AI to turbocharge our work in this area.”

Zuckerberg also stated that the teams are working on bringing the Generative AI tools across the different platforms owned by Meta. The group would be focused on bringing a delightful experience into all the products. “We’re starting by pulling together a lot of the teams working on generative AI across the company into one group focused on building delightful experiences around this technology into all of our different products.”

Zuckerberg, in his post, has also cleared the short-term and long-term plans for Meta AI. “In the short term, we’ll focus on building creative and expressive tools. Over the longer term, we’ll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways.”

In the near future, we can expect Meta AI to include ‘AI personas’ to help its users in ‘Various ways.’ Meta has not explained what these ‘Personas’ would be or how these would help its users. However, we can expect it to be something along the lines of Snapchat’s My AI.

Meta AI would also be experimenting with AI experiences with Text (for its messaging apps like WhatsApp and Messenger) and images (for Instagram filters). “We’re exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences.”
