ACCORDING TO OMAHA POLICE A WOMAN WAS DRIVING AND FELT SHE WAS BEING CHASED BY A BLACK SUV AND SAID SHE DID NOT KNOW WHO THE PERSON WAS. THE BLACK SUV COLLIDED WITH HER VEHICLE AND SHE ENDED UP GOING TO A GAS STATION. THE MAN FOLLOWED HER, RAN AWAY, AND GOT OUT OF HIS SUV AND TOOK HIS CLOTHES OFF AND STARTED JUMPING ON CARS. OFFICERS WERE ON SCENE AND HE RESISTED ARREST AND THEN JUMPED INTO A POLICE CRUISER. HE STARTED DRIVING AND THEY CAUGHT HIM GOING AT LEAST 70 MILE PER HOUR AND POLICE WERE ABLE TO DEFLATE THE TIRES AND HE REFUSED TO GET OUT OF TH CAR, THEN OFFICERS USED PEPPER BALLS TO GET HIM OUT. FIRE AND RESCUE TRANSPORTED HIM TO THE HOSPITAL WITH CRITICAL INJURIES. NO ONE ELSE WAS HURT AT THE SCENE. AS

Omaha police officers took a man into custody after investigators said he crashed into a vehicle, damaged several other vehicles and stole an Omaha police cruiser, initiating a pursuit.The string of events started before 6 a.m. Thursday when a woman called police and said she believed someone had been chasing her in a black SUV, said Lt. Steve Fornoff, with OPD. She told police the driver crashed into her vehicle and she went to a nearby gas station to get away.Fornoff said the SUV left the scene and made its way to 10th Street and Abbott Drive. “(The suspect) exited black SUV, took his clothes off and started jumping on cars in the area, including a large semi, and started ripping parts of the vehicles,” Fornoff said.Officers tried to intervene, Fornoff said, but the man evaded them and jumped in one of their police cruisers. A resulting pursuit reached speeds of 70 mph and ended at 60th Avenue and Lake Street, where police said they were able to deflate the front tires of the police cruiser.The man refused to get out, police said, so police deployed pepper balls and took him into custody. The man went to an Omaha hospital for a medical evaluation.Fornoff believed the man was under the influence of drugs.No officers were injured.
