An OPP officer is charged with assault causing bodily harm following an off-duty incident on New Year’s Eve in London.
London police charged the 39-year-old male officer in an alleged assault on a woman on Dec. 31, according to court documents. The officer’s name will not be published to protect the identity of the complainant.
An OPP spokesperson would not say whether the officer is suspended or remains on the job.
“We cannot confirm any information that could lead to the identity of a victim,” Bill Dickson said in an email.
“Protection of that person’s identity is paramount, no matter who the accused is or who they work for.”
The officer appeared in court on New Year’s Day. He was released from custody and is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 3.
Under the officer’s release conditions, he isn’t allowed to possess any weapons.
The officer is ordered not to leave a south London home between midnight and 6 a.m., and he must check in by phone with London police weekly.
