Instagram is testing the latest feature that would give creators a unique way to create money on the platform. The monetization feature that is being tested is called Gifts and would help creators earn money through Reels.

In a statement, Meta spokesperson, “this feature is an internal prototype and not testing externally.”

The feature was first spotted by App researcher,  Alessandro Paluzzi in July and he tweeted about the upcoming feature being tested by the developers. Earlier, in July the “Gifts” feature was called “content appreciation.”

According to the tweet, the fans would be able to send gifts to the Instagram creators via a button displayed at the bottom of Reels. The creators can be able to see the gifts sent to them under the gifts tab in the settings of their account.

Badges Vs. Gifts Features on Instagram

This is not the first time, Meta has launched a content appreciation feature. In 2020, Instagram launched badges, a feature much similar to the gifts feature of TikTok. The Badges feature on Instagram allows you to show appreciation to a creator in a live video and badges can cost $0.99, $1.99, or $4.99.

With badges a creator can earn money during a livestream and with the new testing feature of Gifts, a content creator can earn money through Reels.
