Freezing temps bring perfect conditions to Perfect North

DEARBORN COUNTY, Indiana — For many of us, temps in the teens means snuggling up indoors, but they’re more than ideal for making snow up at Perfect North.

Jonathan Davis, General Manager of Perfect North, said the conditions made the day after Christmas the slopes’ busiest day of the year so far.

“On a night like we just had in the teens, we can make an average of two to three feet,” he said.

Thanks to freezing temps, Perfect North has been able to churn out snow for more than 36 hours straight.

Hundreds of skiers and snowboarders came out Saturday morning, like brothers Greg and Jim Leugers. They showed up to the slopes at 9 a.m.

“One of the first good ski days of the year. Snow’s good, nice and soft right now,” Jim Leugers said.

Caleb Davis is a first-timer visiting family from Georgia.

“It’s crazy, you don’t see a lot of snow where I’m from. A white Christmas,” he said.

Jonathan Davis is not at all worried about the pandemic slowing down business.

“We’re anticipating a little extra bump in the crowds just because we’re a great outdoor winter getaway,” he said.

Safety is still top of mind with spaced out lanes and masks mandatory almost everywhere.

Perfect North only had the main runs open on Saturday but they plan to open fully in a couple of weeks in time for their peak season.
