Five homes on a street in east London were evacuated Wednesday after a natural gas line was pierced by a construction crew.
London Hydro also shut off power in the neighbourhood on Carlyle Drive, southwest of Dundas Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway, while crews from Enbridge Gas repaired the damage to the underground gas line that occurred at about 4 p.m.
A resident said a horizontal drilling rig was operating in the area.
The London fire department said the five homes were evacuated as a precaution. Residents were allowed back into their homes at about 5:45 p.m. No injuries were reported.
