Back in the day, Sarah Ferguson (Fergie) and Princess Diana were good friends – although it’s often said their relationship was a little turbulent at times.
But despite the bumpy patches, it’s fair to say the Duchess of York knew Diana very well and is in a better position than most to guess what she might have thought of the Royal Family today.
And she has claimed Diana would have had some big feelings about Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.
The people’s princess tragically did not get to see her two son’s get married, but Fergie claims she would have approved of the matches.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain back in November 2018, Fergie said: “She’d really just be so proud.
“Even before they got married, Diana would have been just literally going ‘I can’t believe these boys have done so well’.”
But it’s not just William and Harry that she thinks Diana would have been proud of – but the Duchesses as well.
She continued to say: “She had this enormous compassion and I honestly think she’d be so proud of the wonderful Meghan and Catherine as well, she’d want to embrace them and say ‘You’re doing well’.”
During her interview, Fergie also spoke about how emotional it was to attend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding without Diana there.
“The minute I started to walk [from the car] I kept thinking of Diana in my heart,” she admitted.
“As I came around to corner, the thing that made me cry was the kind people who had been so lovely, plus Jack [Brooksbank] was standing there, and coming towards me with open arms.
“It was just very moving.”
She added: “I was really happy for my friend Diana, who I love … I miss her. No one made me laugh better than her. She was hilarious.”
