Cullercoats councillor makes hilarious- Abba-inspired ‘Mama Mia’ campaign video

A Cullercoats councillor broke out into song in a hilarious video for her re-election campaign.

Karen Lee’s four year term is coming to an end and she is standing for election in her ward.

And to help with her campaign she has released a music video showing her in her beloved village and in the recording studio as she sings about the life of a local councillor to the tune of Abba classic ‘Mama Mia’.

The amended lyrics, which start with “I’ve been picking up dog poo for the last four years, so I made up my mind I’m going to do it again”, don’t shy away from the less glamorous elements of local government.

The video, which can be found on YouTube as “Cullercoats the Musical”, also shows Coun Lee singing about the council’s achievements, such as the temporary coastal cycle way.

On her website she claimed to be the best candidate for Cullercoats.

She wrote: “Four years ago, you honoured me by selecting me as your local Councillor. Since then, I have worked very hard to represent your views and to be as present in the community as possible. I feel passionately about Cullercoats and I believe I am the best candidate to represent our community.

“I, therefore, ask for your support on May 6th, 2021 to continue as your incumbent Cullercoats Councillor.”

Her campaign commitments include fighting for a fairer society, food justice, developing and rolling out a “Green Cullercoats” charter to address the climate crisis.

She also wants to develop parks and play space in the village as well as tackling anti-social behaviour.

Also standing in the village is Linda Arkley, Conservative, Helen Bell, Green Party, John Hoare, Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, and Tracey Pollard, Liberal Democrat.
