What Is The Buffalo Bill Tinder Meme All About?
One sleepless night in October, Jonathan Correia thought it would be fun to pose as the infamous serial killer Jame Gumb, a.k.a. Buffalo Bill, on Tinder for a while. His Tinder profile read that he loved his dog, danced when no one was watching, and liked curvy women. He asked a seemingly innocuous question– do you moisturize?
Then, the profile asks, “I love sewing. Will you help me finish my suit?”
Upon coming across the profile, he expected himself and others to have a good laugh. So, he took a screenshot of his Tinder profile and posted it on iHorror’s Facebook page for other people’s amusement.
After creating the profile, he swiped right on every profile. However, he hadn’t expected to have any matches, given how everyone is aware of Buffalo Bill’s notoriety. To his surprise, he woke up to 15 matches! That’s more than an innocent man would get in his lifetime.
Many people were willing to have a conversation with the iconic Buffalo Bill, even if they did acknowledge the possibility that there might be a sad loner behind the screen, merely trying to kill his time.
Jonathan’s conversation with Buffalo Bill’s matches was also quite fun. They would quote Bill back and forth, share links to relevant YouTube videos, discuss their favorite characters, etc.
Even though the whole thing became a weird meme, Jonathan understood from his real experiment that what people craved was connection.
