Binge-watching is an addiction, and I plead guilty to that! I have spent nights over nights watching some of the best American TV Shows. Do you also find an escape in shows and movies or are you normal? There have been times when waiting for a new season has killed me. For all those sleepless nights and restless days, I come bearing the list of the best shows that are worth watching.

Dodging life and watching shows is a lifestyle. Let me tell you that it is a great way to live (Please don’t forget to eat in between). I am pretty sure that you have already watched some of the famous shows like Friends, Game of Thrones, HIMYM, etc. After watching those shows you might be feeling like “John knows everything.”

Sit relaxed because you are here for a treat. If you loved all the above-mentioned TV Shows, then there is no reason for you to not like rest.

Best American Shows to Binge Watch

One of the most loved American TV Shows is Friends. Even though the show first aired in 1994 and ended in 2004, it still attracts all kinds of audiences. On the other hand, TV Shows like GOT have managed the whole world to be hooked on the screen during the premiere of the last episode. After all this time, it was Arya Stark, and it still bothers me.

Let us look at the best American TV Shows of all time. You may not find your favorite show on the list, so don’t get furious. This list is curated after considering the story, theme, and audience’s reaction.

11. Good Omens

What happens when you mix Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman? You would either get a weird Frankenstein’s monster or Good Omens. Good Omen is based on the 1990 novel written by Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

The story is a comedy tale of the birth of the son of Satan and the coming apocalypse. In 2011, an announcement will be made into a TV adaptation.

The Time Lord stars as David Tennant in this shows. He is famous for playing the doctor in Doctor Who. The reason for bringing up “Doctor Who” is that there are many easter eggs to Doctor Who including Michael Sheen’s voice-over.

10. Big Little Lies

It’s the show that was so popular, the makers could not keep it a miniseries for long. There were scenes that stood out for their shock value, emotional resonance, or mere importance to the story.

Since we are now talking about particular scenes, a spoiler warning is now in effect. From Ed finding out about Madeline’s infidelity to Madeline and Joseph’s Car Accident, this show has every piece of drama to offer.

9. Band of Brothers

The show premiered back in 2001. Even though it was released years back, I honestly can’t start to describe how good this is and how well it stands the test of time. Apart from some greeny shots due to the camera quality at the time, this show would almost believe was made now.

This is because of the incredible attention to detail, impressively good cinematography, the absolutely amazing special effects, and of course the fantastic acting done by everyone. From their training to their d-day drop to fighting in France to fighting in Holland and then finally marching towards Germany and Austria, this shows offers a lot to the historical context of the story.

8. Daredevil

So guys, if you watch the 2003 film Daredevil starring Ben Affleck and you are a fan of a man with no fear, then you were probably disappointed like I was! I mean, if you watch that movie as an adult, it literally makes no sense.

However, in the show “Daredevil” Charlie Cox plays Murdock, a blind lawyer by day and a vigilante by night.  Due to an accident in his childhood, he has heightened senses. He can walk into a room and visually see in his head the various things going on through tiny vibrations in the air.

He can also hear people’s heartbeats to tell when they are lying or telling the truth. This guy has superhuman senses but he is just a man which makes his exploits as a daredevil so entertaining. He is basically Marvel’s version of Batman except he is not rich.

7. Stranger Things

One of the most loved American TV Show has to be Stranger Things. The story revolves around a young boy named Will Buyer who mysteriously disappears. His mother and a police officer along with his friends try to find Will Buyers. But, little did they know, they will need up getting stuck in a loop of some very Strange Things. Without giving out any spoilers of the show, I will just stick to the vague plot of the TV Show.

This is definitely a must-watch. But be aware, you don’t want to end up in the upside-down (parallel universe). One of the most interesting facts about this show is that it is inspired by the early novel Stephen King. If you are a 1980’s literature fan, you might know it already.

6. Chef’s Table

You wouldn’t expect a documentary about food to have the same narrative as the Lord of Rings. But probably that’s the reason why Chef’s Table is on the list of the best American TV Shows. That is because it is EPIC. Looking at the trailer or the name of the show, it becomes clear that it is about food. However, when you start watching this show, you will realize that a whole other story lies beneath. A story that is about art, quests, ideas, grandiosity, and personas.

The show is not about what dish is being prepared, rather it is about the journey of the person who is making the dish. The show follows a mythological narrative pattern called Monomyth (Journey of the Hero). It is the same narrative that we find in Harry Potter, The Matrix, and Labyrinth.

The stories of these chefs are heroic but it is the form of narrative that gives us a sense of belonging and goosebumps. This happens because these stories and narratives inspire us.

5. How I Met Your Mother

The nine years long sitcom is a story of an almost 30-year-old Ted Mosby. He lives with his four friends in New York City, in search of love. Ted is narrating his story of questing love throughout the years to his kids. Hence, the title of the show How I Met Your Mother

HIMYM has a huge fanbase and saw great success. However, backlashing was on its way. The last episode of the season was a little disappointing. Fans all around the world hated the final season of the TV Show.

The beginning of the show was refreshing, not that it brought something new to the table. But it was unique in its character representation. Ted, Barney, Marshall, Lily, and Robin were great characters. Their growth and evolution throughout the show will definitely keep you hooked up on the screens.

4. Friends

Adam Sternbergh once asked, “Why so many 20-somethings want to steam a 20-year-old sitcom about a bunch of 20-somethings sitting around in a coffee shop?”

Well, the answer to that question might be a little difficult. Friends is a show about, of course, friends. However, it is more than just a sitcom. This show deals with the stress, anxiety, and struggles of daily life.

The show is full of joyful characters with sparkling personalities. You will meet Chandler with his witty sarcasm, Monika in her lunatic observation, Rachel being her crazy self, Joey with his constant hunger and more hunger, Ross mostly with his dinosaurs or somewhere behind Rachel, and Phoebe just being awesome!!!

3. The Leftovers

The leftovers take place a year after the “Sudden Departure”. After this event, 2% of the world population suddenly vanishes without any reason. Just to make the figures correct, 2% of the world’s population means 140 million people!!

The Leftovers” is probably the most underrated American TV Show in the last 5 years. Unlike many American TV Shows, The Leftover never got the attention that they truly deserve. You can also consider this TV show as a sequel to “Lost” and let’s not get started how magnificent that show was!

Coming back to The Leftovers, the series deals with weird supernatural events and mysterious groups of people. In the first season, we deal with Grief. In the second season, many questions are answered contributing a new direction to the plot of the show.

2. Suits

Suits is a story about a leading law firm in New York. The story revolves around a boy who is interested in law but due to financial problems, he is forced to drop out of law school. The actual plot of the TV Shows begins where Harvey is hired in a very reputed law firm in Manhattan. The catch here is that this firm only hires law graduates from Harvard and Harvey is not one!

With his wittiness and passion, he somehow managed to fool a whole law firm into believing him as a Harvard law graduate. The show has a great potential to keep you engaged throughout the seasons. You will get a mix of legal procedures, romance, drama, heartbreaks, and a lot more.

1. Games of Thrones

Thanks to the OTT Channels that we don’t have to wait a week for the next episode. The show is set in medieval times which is filled with too much politics, betrayal, grotesque murders, and super complex relations. The writing and production of the show are mind-blowing and jeez the visuals and cinematography!

There are just a few shows that have gone to this level of craftsmanship. GOT has definitely set up a ground standard for all the historical dramas. My personal favorite episode till now is the “Battle of Bastards”. That particular episode is filled with so many different emotions and catharsis.

The show has taken Dramatic Monologues way too seriously!! And that is just awesome. This show needs to be watched, Period. However, there was a lot of backlash on the final season. It should have been Jon Snow and not Arya Stark!!!

Wrapping Up

This is the list of the best American TV Shows that you must watch. All the series on the list have intrigued me! It would be rather difficult for me to choose one best among all. Each TV Show belongs to different genre and have varied plots. However, just for the sake of choosing one among the list, I would pick Friends. It is one of the most engaging sitcom. Spoiler, I will not participate in any kind of fan division!!

I hope you find the best American TV Show here. Do let us know in the comments which series you will pick next. Stay connected for more such connect and have a great day!
