GWS have scored one of the gutsiest wins in their 10-year history.
Heading into this contest 0-3 with their season well and truly on the line, and without Stephen Coniglio (ankle), Lachie Whitfield (liver), Brent Daniels (ankle), Phil Davis (calf), Matt de Boer (hamstring), Adam Kennedy (shoulder), Daniel Lloyd (quad), Harry Perryman (illness), Braydon Preuss (shoulder) and Sam Reid (suspension), they somehow managed to take it up to Collingwood and get the chocolates by 30 points, 14.6.90 to 9.6.60
It was also just their fifth win from 21 attempts at the MCG, three of which have now come against Collingwood.
Toby Greene led from the front as the stand-in captain in Coniglio’s absence, with five goals and 18 disposals while Callan Ward was also superb with 37 disposals (15 contested) and seven clearances.
Jeremy Finlayson (four goals) was also influential, as were Tim Taranto (34), Jacob Hopper (32) and Lachie Ash (28).
The Magpies now slump to 1-3, and finish the match two men down in Adams (knee) and Sier (illness).
