A Secret Santa surprises beloved community member with special wheelchair – East Idaho News

A Secret Santa is back and this Christmas is bigger than ever!

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local man gift more than $500,000 this holiday season. A lot more. Secret Santa is a real person who wants to remain anonymous and hopes to help as many individuals in our community as he can.

Louis is the former mayor of Driggs. He lost his leg over 20 years ago and has been confined to a wheelchair ever since. He had been living with his 96-year-old mother, Bette, until she passed away a few months ago.

He is now alone in the house he grew up in and needs a rugged, all-terrain wheelchair. Since winters in Driggs are so hard, he relies on his motorized wheelchair to get him around town. On days when the snow is deep and the city hasn’t cleared the sidewalks, it’s not uncommon to see him driving his wheelchair in the traffic lane in order to get to the grocery store or post office. It is a dangerous situation.

Lou is a great man. He donates his time to the community and spends countless hours helping those around him. While serving as mayor of Driggs for several years, he refused to take a full salary. He never asks for help, even when he is stuck in the snow in his wheelchair.

Secret Santa heard about Lou and asked the East Idaho News elves to surprise him before Christmas. Watch the video above to see his reaction!
